Yvonne Hijgenaar (born May 15, 1980 in Alkmaar ) is a former Dutch cyclist .
Athletic career
As a teenager, Yvonne Hijgennar was interested in many sports, initially starting out with handball , playing tennis and speed skating . As a speed skater, she made it into the national squad.
In 2001, Hijgenaar bought a track bike for training purposes. For fun, she registered for a race on the track in Alkmaar and was noticed by the Dutch "bond coach " Peter Pieters , who invited her to track training. In the same year she was Dutch champion in the time trial over 500 m and second in the sprint .
In the following years, Hijgenaar won numerous national championship titles in time trial, keirin and sprint. In 2005 she won two bronze medals in the time trial and in the keirin at the World Track Championships . She was also successful internationally in the team sprint , together with Willy Kanis : the two drivers became vice world champions in 2007 . In addition, Yvonne Hijgenaar was third in the Omnium at the 2009 World Track Championships in Pruszkow . After participating in the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where she finished fifth in the sprint, she ended her cycling career.
Yvonne Hijgenaar is in a relationship with the cyclist Roy van den Berg . A child was born in August 2013.
