Ingrid Rolinda Haringa (born July 11, 1964 in Velsen ) is a former Dutch track cyclist and speed skater .

Career

Ingrid Haringa began her sporting career as a speed skater. In the 1980s she was one of the best sprinters in her home country. From 1987 to 1989 she was able to win four national titles on the ice. In 1988 she took part - albeit with little success - at the Winter Olympics in Calgary . At the Sprint World Championships in 1989 , she finished fourth. Then she turned to track cycling.

In 1991 Ingrid Haringa made her international debut on the track. At the Track Cycling World Championships in Stuttgart, she started in three disciplines and immediately won two world championship titles in the points race and in the sprint . She was able to successfully defend her title in the points race three times in the following years.

Ingrid Haringa won the bronze medal in the sprint at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Four years later, in Atlanta , she was able to surpass this result with another bronze medal in the sprint and a silver medal in the points race.

Haringa, who is a trained police officer , then resigned from active sports. She first worked as a speed skating trainer. She is currently one of the supervisors of the “Merida Cycling Team”, a women's team.

In 1991 and 1996 Ingrid Haringa was named “ Sportswoman of the Year ” in the Netherlands .
