Tanya Dubnicoff

Tanya Dubnicoff (born November 7, 1969 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian cyclist who specializes in track cycling and is now a trainer.

Even as a child, Tanya Dubnicoff dreamed of competing in the Olympic Games. Before she started track cycling at the age of 18, she played ringette and was part of the national team at the 1st Ringette World Championship in Canada. She started BMX racing when she was 12 and became the Canadian champion in her age group; she played hockey during her college years .

Through track cycling, Dubnicoff finally came to the Olympic Games, where she finished sixth in the 1992 sprint , eighth in 1996 and seventh in 2000 . At the Pan American Games in 1999 in her hometown of Winnipeg, she won two gold medals, in the sprint and in the time trial .

In 1993 Tanya Dubnicoff became world champion in the sprint, making it the first Canadian to succeed. She had previously won the prestigious sprint classic Grand Prix de Paris . In 1999, at the World Track Championships in Berlin, she was third in the sprint. In addition, she was Canadian champion nine times.

Today Tanya Dubnicoff works as a trainer for the Canadian track cycling team.
