Sue Novara

Sue Novara (born November 22, 1955 in Flint , Michigan ) is a former American track cyclist and cycling trainer.

Sue Novara began, like other American female cyclists, her athletic career as a speed skater before switching to track cycling. At the age of 16 she drove her first sprint competition. At the age of 20 she became the youngest female athlete to become an American champion. She was able to repeat this success four times in competition with her fiercest opponent Sheila Young .

Sue Novara was world champion in sprint twice, in 1975 and 1980, twice she won silver and once bronze.

In 1984 "Navajo Sue", as she was called because of her long ponytail, withdrew from active racing; from 1986 to 1988 she was in charge of the American women's track cycling team. She has been called Novara-Reber since their marriage.

In 1991 Sue Novara-Reber was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame .
