Galina Georgievna Zaryova

Galina Georgijewna Zarjowa ( Russian Гали́на Гео́ргиевна Царёва ; born April 19, 1950 in Velikije Luki ) is a former Soviet track cyclist and six-time sprint world champion .

Between 1969 and 1980 Galina Zaryova dominated the women's sprint on the track. She was world champion six times (1969 in Brno , 1970 in Leicester , 1971 in Varese , 1977 in San Cristobal , 1978 in Munich and 1979 in Amsterdam ). In addition, she was once vice world champion (1980 in Besançon ) and once third (1974 in Montreal).

In 1989, Zaryova managed to win again at the classic sprint Grand Prix de Paris after finishing third in this race in 1987.

Galina Zaryova is married to the Russian cycling coach Alexander Kuznetsov , who was world champion in team pursuit in 1969 . Her sons are cyclists Nikolai and Alexei Kuznetsov. Her daughter is the tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova .
