Pants end

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pants top is a military term for wearing the lower end of uniform pants in the boot or on the upper edge of the boot shaft.

purpose

The main purpose of the bottom of the trousers is to protect the uniform trousers from dirt and moisture. The risk of the trousers becoming obscured when dismounting or jumping off a combat vehicle is reduced. The soldier's shoe care is also easier to control when a large part of the boot is visible. Above all, the trouser hem is a typical identification mark of the soldier, such as the beret and the identification tag .

Manufacture of the pants end

  • Tucking the trousers into the bootleg is a traditional method when no other aids are available. However, it often proves to be uncomfortable on longer journeys.
  • Fixing it to the boot shaft with a rubber drawstring sewn into the bottom of the pants is a good method, as long as the elastic is properly tensioned. If the tape is often tightened, the band wears out and the trouser hem loosens, creating a sloppy and poorly adjusted impression.
  • When using a trouser elastic, a short piece of elastic with metal hooks at both ends, the band is hung together in the upper area of the boot shaft. The edge of the pants is pinched between the band and the boot and turned over so that the band is no longer visible. This is the most convenient and safest method.

Areas of application

During marches and hot weather, the trouser hem is often loosened on the command of the commanding officer to allow better air circulation and cooling . The Austrian Armed Forces do not use these waterproof trousers either .
