Nicole Reinhart

Nicole Reinhart (born June 3, 1976 in Macungie ; † September 17, 2000 in Cambridge ) was an American cyclist .

As a teenager and junior, Nicole Reinhart won several US championship titles. In 1995 she won two gold medals at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata , in the sprint and road race , and bronze in the points race . She won her first two national women's titles in 1997 when she became champion in the sprint and 500-meter time trial on the track .

In 2000 Nicole Reinhart had a fatal accident during a circuit race in Arlington . She hit a concrete barrier with her left pedal, was thrown off the bike and into a tree. At that point, after winning three races, she was leading the BMC Software Cycling Grand Prix , which was worth $ 250,000. The prize money was handed over to her family, who used it to set up the Nicole Reinhart Memorial Foundation , which supports young cycling talent.

In 2004 Nicole Reinhart was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown , where she grew up.
