Mandy Marquardt (born August 7, 1991 in Mannheim ) is a German - American track cyclist who competes in short-term disciplines.
Athletic career
When Mandy Marquardt was six years old, her family moved from Mannheim to the United States, where she was initially active in various sports. She started cycling at the age of ten and successfully competed in national championships in her age group. At the age of 15 she moved back to Mannheim with her father, where she trained with Willi Altig . She started at German track championships and finished third in the 500-meter time trial of the juniors for two years in a row .
During a routine health check by her then Rothaus team , it was discovered that the then 16-year-old Marquardt was suffering from diabetes . She then returned to the United States to live with her mother again. Since 2009 she has been riding for the Novo Nordisk team , a cycling team for people with diabetes. In 2014 she became two-time US champion, in the 500-meter time trial and in the team sprint , together with Shelby Walter . She also won five Florida championship titles and two US student championships.
At the Pan American Championships 2017, Mandy Marquardt won three medals: with Madalyn Godby gold in the team sprint, silver in the keirin and bronze in the 500-meter time trial.
