Megan Guarnier (born May 4, 1985 in Glens Falls ) is a former American cyclist .
Athletic career
Megan Guarnier, whose ancestors come from Italy , comes from a sporty family. She and her brother, two years older than her, did a lot of sport and both became nationally successful swimmers . The brother fell while training on his bike and had to end his athletic career.
In 2010 Megan Guarnier received her first contract with TIBCO-To The Top . The following year she won the Giro della Toscana Femminile , and in 2012 she was American road racing champion .
2015 was Guarnier's most successful year to date: Among other things, she won the first Strade Bianche for women in Tuscany , won the Tour of Norway , became national road racing champion and finished third in the World Championship road race in Richmond . The following year 2016 began just as successfully for her when she won the California Tour . Among other things, she won the Giro d'Italia Femminile and was the winner of the UCI Women's WorldTour at the end of the season .
Megan Guarnier's greatest success in 2017 was winning the silver medal in the team time trial at the Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway together with the riders of the Boels Dolmans Cyclingteam . A few days later she started in a street race where she was involved in a fall that broke her jaw. A titanium plate had to be inserted into her during an operation .
In August 2018, Guarnier announced that she would end her active career at the end of the season. Before that, she had won the Tour de Yorkshire in May of that year .

Megan Guarnier graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts ( summa cum laude ) degree in neuroscience .
