The 82nd UCI Road World Championships took place from September 19-27, 2015 in Richmond , USA .

The world championships were made up of a total of twelve competitions, a road race , a team time trial and an individual time trial for men and women as well as a road race and an individual time trial for U23 drivers and juniors. The world title fights took place in 2015 for the first time in almost 30 years in the USA, after Colorado Springs in 1986.

In February 2014, the organizers presented the route plans for the Road World Championships. The road races were held on a circuit through downtown Richmond.

The most successful nation at the World Championships was the host United States with three gold medals and a total of eight medals. The American junior Chloe Dygert won two gold medals in road races and time trials, making her the most successful athlete at the World Championships. The British Elizabeth Armitstead won two medals, a gold in the road race and a silver in the team time trial.

The Slovak Peter Sagan won the gold medal in the men's road race and, after Peter Velits ( 2007 ), the second medal for his country. In the junior category, the Austrian Felix Gall won the road race and thus the first gold medal in cycling history at road world championships for his home country.

With Jeanne D'arc Girubuntu from Rwanda , the first black woman from Africa took part. In the individual time trial, she finished 7: 11.84 minutes behind the winner, Linda Villumsen from New Zealand, in the last of 44 places. In the road race she reached 87th and penultimate place with 11:37 minutes behind the winner Elizabeth Armitstead from the United Kingdom.
