Sarah Rijkes (born April 2, 1991 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ) is an Austrian cyclist .

Athletic career

Sarah Rijkes came to cycling through her father, who comes from the Netherlands and competed in cycling himself. As a 15-year-old she started her first race.

In 2013, after a fall in May to September, she was sidelined due to an injury. In 2014, the Lower Austrian received her first professional contract with a team and Rijkes has been on the podium several times at Austrian road championships in the junior and U23 class. In 2016 she moved from the Belgian team Lotto Soudal to the Belgian racing team Lares-Waowdeals .

In 2018 she became Austrian state champion in road racing, after having finished third in 2016.

In the 2019 season she switched to the Ceratizit-WNT Rotor Pro Cycling Team . In May she was third in the state championship in the individual time trial as part of the “Tour de Carinthia” at Ossiachersee , behind Anna Kiesenhofer and Manuela Hartl .

Sarah has Rijkes biology , English and Sport on teacher studied.

  • In December 2018 Sarah Rijkes was awarded the Abua Honorary Prize of her hometown Waidhofen.
