The Johann Nepomuk Berger-place in the districts of Vienna Ottakring and Hernals is traffic and also green space . Before 1894 it was simply called Marktplatz.

Space design

In 2018, as part of the renovation of Johann-Nepomuk-Berger-Platz, the 4000 m² Adele-Jellinek-Park (named in 2019 after the writer Adele Jellinek from Ottakring ) was opened. The tram stop used to be at this point.

Marian column

Marian column

The Marian column is a baroque round column with a leaf vein capital on a stepped base and an Immaculate statue made of sandstone. It was moved to its current location in 1892.

traffic

Private transport

In the lower area there is a traffic-calmed zone . In the upper area, however, is the Ottakringer Straße , a connecting road between Ottakring and Hernals.

Public transport

Tram lines 2 (until 2008: J), 9 and 44 cross each other on the square.

On September 2, 2017, lines 2 and 44 each swapped their western branch. This means that line 2 now runs from Friedrich-Engels-Platz to Dornbach and line 44 from the Schottentor underground station to Ottakring. With this change in the timetable, the 16th and 17th districts each have a connection to the university at Schottentor and a connection to the center . The stops of the 2er were relocated to adjacent side streets.
