Federal Song Festival 1866

The 12th Federal Singers' Festival took place from July 21 to 23, 1866 in Rapperswil . A total of 2000 singers took part in 55 clubs. The festival was organized by the Rapperswil men's choir (dissolved in 2017). The festival was overshadowed by the fire in the Rapperswil town hall, in which one of the festival participants was killed while rescuing a prisoner.

The St. Gallen National Councilor Johann Baptist Gaudy acted as party president . The president of the jury was the Bernese choir pioneer Johann Rudolf Weber , the festival director of the overall performance was the Wettinger conductor Karl Attenhofer .
