The Friedrich-Engels-Platz is located in Vienna's district Brigittenau . The square is located near the banks of the Danube , is crossed by streets and tram tracks and is divided into various green and recreational areas. The square was named after Friedrich Engels .

history

The square was originally called Kaiserplatz , from 1920 Engelsplatz , and from 1934 Pater-Abel- Platz . In 1946 it was given its current name Friedrich-Engels-Platz , named after the German politician, entrepreneur, philosopher and historian Friedrich Engels (1820–1895). The place is strongly influenced by those in the interwar period and after World War II , built public housing .

The numbering starts in the north at the Friedrich-Engels-Platz residential complex with the numbers 1 to 11 and runs clockwise. Number 12 is a branch of Lidl . Numbers 13 and 14 are not assigned. The residential buildings in the south-east, some of which are municipal buildings , are numbered 15 to 21. These include a pharmacy , an ice cream parlor , a few craftsmen and service providers . The access to Arwagsteg , a pedestrian bridge that leads over the Handelskai to the right bank of the Danube, is at the residential complex No. 15–16 .
