Taxi rank at Berlin Tegel Airport

A taxi stand , often also called a taxi stand , also called taxi post or stopping post by taxi drivers , is a waiting area for taxis that is marked by appropriate traffic signs and where passengers can board. Taxi ranks are usually located at junction points and other central points, such as train stations , airports or places close to the center, for example in pedestrian zones .

At taxi ranks with high passenger volumes are usually Nachrückstände furnished. This is usually within sight of the actual taxi stand. In exceptional cases, such as at Berlin Tegel Airport , there is a charge to use the backlog and the associated taxi stand.

The designated areas may not be used by other road users for parking or stopping and are therefore given their own signage. In Germany, for example, it is marked with the road sign No. 229 StVO taxi stand (a regulatory sign ).

In order to avoid long waiting times at taxi stands, there are in some cases so-called taxi pillars at the taxi stand. The number and importance of call columns has decreased due to the spread of mobile phones, taxi apps and automatic switching.
