The 1950 UCI Road World Championships took place on August 19 and 20 in Moorslede , Belgium .

Racing action

For amateurs and professionals , an 87-kilometer loop was planned that led to the Ardennes . This was followed by an eleven-kilometer circuit. The amateurs had to cover 175 kilometers. You drove the loop once and the circuit eight times. The professional driver's racetrack was 284 kilometers. They had to tackle the loop twice and drove the circuit eleven times.

Among the amateurs, the 23-year-old Australian Jack Hoobin won for the first time a non-European. The Olympic seventh from 1948 needed an average speed of 38.9 km / h to win.

The 30-year-old world champion from 1948 Albéric Schotte from Belgium was again world champion of professional drivers in 1950. He completed the world championship course at 36.3 km / h and on the final circuit to the finish, he was one minute ahead of Dutchman Theofiel Middelkamp . Third was Ferdy Kübler from Switzerland , who was second in the previous year . Of the 40 professionals who started, only 12 made it to the finish.

Although the Association of German Cyclists, which was re-established in 1948 , had been accepted into the international cycling association UCI three months before the World Cup , the BDR did not yet take part in the 1950 World Cycling Championships.
