UCI Road World Championships 2009

The 76th UCI Road World Championships were from 23 to 27 September 2009 at the Swiss Mendrisio instead. The last road cycling world championship was held there in 1971 .

A total of six decisions were made in the individual time trial and road race disciplines as well as in the women, men and men U23.

stretch

The start of the road race was in Mendrisio at an altitude of 342  m above sea level. M. The route led with up to 10% gradient to Castel San Pietro , where at 438  m above sea level. M. the highest point has been reached. The drivers then reached the lowest point at 250  m above sea level via a longer descent to Balerna . M. After passing the marshalling yard of Chiasso the route again rose up to 10%, to the village of Novazzano ( 376  m above sea level. M. ). The rest of the way to the finish was gently sloping. The length of the circuit was 13.8 km, the difference in altitude 245 m.

The individual time trial of the men and the men under 23 took place on a 16.6 km long circuit with a difference in altitude of 120 m. The first section from Mendrisio ( 342  m above sea level ) via Capolago to Riva San Vitale ( 273  m above sea level ) was slightly sloping. On the way to Rancate ( 359  m above sea level ) a 10% steep incline had to be overcome. It continued flat over Ligornetto ( 362  m above sea level ), Stabio ( 340  m above sea level ) and Genestrerio ( 340  m above sea level ) back to Mendrisio. The women's time trial circuit was similar, except that it did not touch the villages of Capolago and Riva San Vitale; here the length was 13.4 km and the difference in altitude 110 m.
