Marco Pinotti (born February 25, 1976 in Osio Sotto ) is a former Italian cyclist . He was six times Italian time trial champion (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013).

Athletic career

He won his first Italian championship title in 1998 in the team time trial . Marco Pinotti achieved a total of 28 victories as an amateur and got the opportunity to jump into the professional field in 1998 as a stagiaire with the Polti team. He then got a professional contract with the Italian cycling team Lampre-Daikin . In 1999 he and his teammate Raivis Belohvoščiks won the pair time trial European GP , and a year later he won a stage of the Tour of Poland . He took part in the Tour de France three times , with his best result in 2001 being 52nd place in the overall standings, in which he was once stage runner-up behind Rik Verbrugghe . In the Tour of the Basque Country in 2003, he won a stage and secured first place in the mountain classification. From 2005 he drove for the Spanish ProTeam Saunier Duval-Prodir . In the same year he won the Italian time trial championships for the first time .

For the 2007 season he moved to the German T-Mobile team . For this team he achieved stage wins at the Giro d'Italia 2008 , the Basque Country Tour 2009 and the Tour de Romandie 2010 . In 2012 he moved to the BMC Racing Team and won the final time trial of the Giro d'Italia 2012 . In this discipline he also started at the Olympic Games in London and finished fifth.

After the end of the 2013 season, which started for him with a serious fall on the Tour Méditerranéen , Pinotti ended his active cycling career as a professional. The manager of the BMC Racing Team, Jim Ochowicz , announced that Pinotti would be employed elsewhere in the team from 2014.

Pinotti has a university degree (master's) as an engineer, which he obtained in 2000 after studying five years at the University of Bergamo .
