Rik Verbrugghe (born July 23, 1974 in Tienen , Belgium) is a former Belgian cyclist and later sports director .

Rik Verbrugghe was considered an all-rounder and prologue specialist . In 2001 he won the prologue of the Giro d'Italia in Pescara and the Eneco Tour in Mechelen in 2005. His greatest successes included two stage wins at the Giro d'Italia and one at the Tour de France

After seven years with the Belgian cycling team Lotto , Verbrugghe moved to the Quick Step team for one year in 2005 . From 2006 he drove for the Equipe Cofidis . At the end of the 2008 season he ended his career.

After his active career, Verbrugghe became Sports Director of the BMC Racing Team in 2012 .

Verbrugghe is related to racing cyclist Greg Van Avermaet by marriage.
