Lüfthildis
Lüfthildis (also Liuthildis von Bonn) is a local Rhenish saint who is venerated above all in the small town Lüftelberg (city of Meckenheim ) - previously Berg - named after her . There is a pilgrimage to her grave in the Romanesque St. Petrus Church (Lüfthildis second patronage). Your tombstone is a simple sintered lime slab from the Eifel aqueduct .
There are no secured life data. She is said to have lived in the time of Charlemagne .
In 1623 their cult was revived by the Archbishop of Cologne, Ferdinand von Wittelsbach .
Lüfthildis reminds in vita and representation of the holy Elisabeth of Thuringia . It is represented with a spindle as an attribute and is said to heal ear diseases and drive away evil spirits.
Adoration
Her feast day is January 23rd (Winterlüfthildis). The octave with spindle blessing takes place from June 1st to 8th. Several churches and chapels are dedicated to her in the vicinity of Lüftelberg, see Lüfthildiskirche .
Since 1981, a theater group has been named after Lüfthildis, which has performed modern mystery plays around Corpus Christi in the Lüfthildiskirche.
In May 2020 the Catholic parish of St. Petrus Lüftelberg had a peace stele erected on the edge of the Kottenforst forest , which is also called the Lüfthildis wayside shrine . It is not far from the Kottenforst train station and was created by the Königswinter stonemason Martin Thiebes. The inscription reads “Go and bring peace”.
