James Lionel "Jim" Ochowicz (born December 23, 1951 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is a former American cyclist and current cycling official.

In 1972 Jim Ochowicz started in the team pursuit at the Olympic Games in Munich ; the American team took 17th place in the cast of David Chauner , John Vande Velde , David Mulica and Ochowicz.

1981 Ochowicz founded the first UC American professional team 7-Eleven . In 1985 the team started at the Giro d'Italia and in 1986 at the Tour de France , paving the way for more American professional cyclists in Europe. Ochowicz led the team that later changed its name to Motorola until it was dissolved in 1996.

From 2002 to 2006 Jim Ochowicz was president of the US cycling association USA Cycling and coached the national road team at three Olympic Games. Since 2007 he has been General Manager of the BMC Racing Team .

In 1997, Jim Ochowicz was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame . His family is very sporty: He is the husband of the speed skater Sheila Young , brother-in-law of the racing cyclist Roger Young , also brother-in-law of the racing cyclist Connie Paraskevin-Young and the father of the speed skater Elli Ochowicz .
