Olimpio Bizzi

Olimpio Bizzi (born August 1, 1916 in Livorno , † August 3, 1976 in Abetone ) was an Italian cyclist .

From the late 1930s to the early 1950s, Olimpio Bizzi was part of the second guard of Italian racing drivers in the shadow of Gino Bartali , Learco Guerra and Fausto Coppi . He was a professional driver from 1936 to 1952. He usually finished second or third in numerous major races, but he was denied great success during his career. In 1936 he came second at Milan – Sanremo , Milan – Turin and the Giro dell'Emilia . In 1937 and 1943 he won the Giro di Toscana and in 1937 and 1939 the Tre Valli Varesine . In 1950 he was the winner of the Tour of Morocco .

Bizzi started nine times at the Giro d'Italia , was able to win 13 stages - for example in 1936 at the age of 19 as the youngest stage winner - but could not finish the tour five times. In 1939 he achieved his best result in the tour with 11th place in the overall classification.

Olimpio Bizzi was twice Italian champion, in 1938 on the road and in 1939 in the single pursuit on the track . At the end of his career he had achieved 30 victories as a professional driver.
