Giuseppe Olmo (born November 22, 1911 in Celle Ligure , † March 5, 1992 in Milan ) was an Italian cyclist and Olympic champion in cycling .

1931 Giuseppe Olmo Italian champion of amateurs in the road race , the same year he won at the UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen in second place. In 1932 he started at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the road race and finished fourth and together with Guglielmo Segato and Attilio Pavesi the gold medal in the team competition . He then moved on to the pros and won the Milan – Turin race that same year .

Olmo competed five times in the Giro d'Italia , in 1934 he was fourth, in 1935 third and in 1936 second (behind Gino Bartali ). Twice, in 1935 and 1938, Olmo won the Milan – Sanremo race , in 1936 he won the Giro dell'Emilia and was Italian road champion. On October 31, 1935, he also set a new world hour record over 45.090 kilometers in the Velodromo Maspes-Vigorelli in Milan , which lasted almost a year. He was the first driver to exceed the 45-kilometer mark. Olmo also started in six six- day races , together with Learco Guerra he finished second in Paris in 1935 and third in Brussels . At the end of his career he was Italian standing master in 1940 .

After retiring from active cycling, Olmo opened a bicycle factory in his hometown of Celle Ligure , which still exists today and belongs to the " Olmo Group ".
