Pietro Algeri

Pietro Algeri (born October 2, 1950 in Torre de 'Roveri ) is a former Italian cyclist and current sports director .

Athletic career

In 1969 Pietro Algeri became vice world champion in the team pursuit in Antwerp , together with Antonio Castello , Giorgio Morbiato and Giacomo Bazzan . In 1971 he won the world championship title with the Italian four-man track (Bazzan, Luciano Borgognoni , Morbiato) in Varese . At the 1972 Olympic Games , the favored four-man track with Algeri only reached ninth place.

In 1974 Algeri turned pro . The following year he was Italian champion in the single pursuit , in 1977 and 1979 in the standing race . At the UCI Track World Championships in 1977 in San Cristóbal , Venezuela , he took third place in the standing race. He also started in 42 six-day races, of which he won two, in Montreal in 1979 and 1980 , each with Willy De Bosscher . He could not achieve success on the street .

Professional

In 1982 Pietro Algeri resigned from active cycling and since then has been the sports director of various teams, including a. with the Lampre team, with the Piemonte team since 2009 .
