Walter Avogadri

Walter Avogadri (born January 27, 1948 in Covo ) is a former Italian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Avogadri was mainly active as a train driver and there especially as a stayer. Already as an amateur he came into contact with the standing sport, won a bronze medal at the championships in 1972 and competed at the UCI track world championships . From 1973 to 1980 he drove as a professional driver . His first team was the Zonca racing team . From 1975 to 1979 he stood on the podium at the Italian championships in the standing race . In 1976 he won the national title ahead of Pietro Algeri . He made five starts at the UCI-Bahn World Championships for professional drivers, and in 1976 he won the bronze medal behind the winner Wilfried Peffgen . He set several best performances behind the pacemaker machine (over an hour and over 100 kilometers, these were not recognized as world records by the Union Cycliste International (UCI), but registered as world bests). A recognized record, however, was his performance in 1979, when he covered 97.561 kilometers per hour.
