The Bored stone in the highlands resin is about 10 m high and since 1964 as a natural monument designated granite -Felsformation on the corridor of the city of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location and geology

The Drilled Stone is located on the Hippeln in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park, about 4 km southwest of the Wernigerode district of Hasserode , a southwest district of Wernigerode , and 3 km north-northwest of Drei Annen Hohne . It is located on the northeast flank of the Hohnekamm above the valley of the brown water . The approximately 10 m high rock stands at around 600  m above sea level. NN . It consists of coarse-grain granite with weathered wool sacks . Until the last century there were several granite quarries in the vicinity of the drilled stone. The broken granite stones were brought down to the Thumkuhlental and loaded there onto the Harzquerbahn . The former loading station is now part of the geological-historical educational trail in Hasserode.

Surname

The upper part of this rock formation is designed as if a hole had been drilled through it so that one can see through between the granite blocks from the side, which led to the somewhat unusual naming. In previous centuries the term perforated stone was also used.

Hiking and climbing

The shortest way to get to the Drilled Stone is on foot, either from the Steinerne Renne stop of the Harzquerbahn and Brockenbahn or from the parking lot at the confluence of the Thumkuhlen- in the Drängetal not far from the road to Drei Annen Hohne .

Like the nearby Ottofels, the Drilled Stone is officially designated as a climbing rock by the German Alpine Association . Magnesia is prohibited on both rocks.
