Geographical location

Hasserode lies at the foot of the Harz Mountains in the Holtemme valley , which forms the Steinerne Renne in the upper reaches . The country road leads through the village to Drei Annen Hohne and Schierke in the direction of Brocken and the Harzquerbahn with the Hasseröder stations Wernigerode Hochschule Harz (previously Wernigerode –Kirchstraße ) and Wernigerode-Hasserode .

history

The place arose around Hasserode Castle in the 12th century, was almost desolate in the 16th century and was repopulated in 1768 by order of the Prussian King Friedrich II, hence the name Friedrichsthal for the lower part of the village and the temporary place name Hasserode-Friedrichsthal. On April 1, 1907, the rural community of Hasserode was incorporated into the city of Wernigerode.

economy

The place became known nationwide for the Hasseröder brewery. Numerous companies in the chocolate industry were located in Hasserode, such as the Johann Friedrich Wesche Chocolade-Fabrik , the Ferdinand Karnatzki chocolate factory , Burgmühle-Schokoladen GmbH and, as successor, the Argenta Schokoladenwerk AG . After the Second World War, this company became the VEB Schokoladenfabrik Wernigerode , trading as VEB (K) Argenta confectionery factory Wernigerode in 1951 . In 1990 it became a GmbH, which was taken over by Friedel Süßwarenfabrik GmbH in 1991 . With the bankruptcy of this company in 2002, the traditional production of confectionery in the Hasserode district ended.

The Reiswunderwerk Wernigerode was located at Frankenfeldstrasse 6 in Hasserode . After the factory buildings were demolished, residential buildings were also built on the factory premises.

The Hasserode blue paint works as well as the Boetersmühle and the Klippmühle are also historically interesting .
