Darlingerode has been part of the town of Ilsenburg (Harz) in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany , since July 1, 2009 . It is a state-approved resort .

geography

Darlingerode is located on the northern edge of the Harz between Wernigerode and Drübeck at a height of 260 to 300 m, the gently undulating landscape of the northern Harz foreland extends to the north , in the south the Hochharz rises behind the last houses , to the west and east accompany the place hills of steep provided by the resin uplift shell - and red sandstone layers. On the eastern edge of the village is the watershed between the Elbe and Weser , the Rammelsbach flowing through the village as a tributary of the Ilse to the Weser. The European cycle route R1 runs through the village .

The place consists of two former districts that have now merged - Altenrode in the north, Darlingerode in the south.

history

Of the two districts of Ilsenburg , Darlingerode is the older. As can be seen from an undated donation note from the 12th century, a gentleman named Turincwart donated his entire property and the "Villa Turincwart" to the Fulda monastery . This donation was made between 780 and 820; the time for Turincwartesrot is likely to be before 800. The location, which is suspected to be in the southern part of Darlingerode, could have been laid out as early as the time of the Thuringians. It is believed that after it was donated to the Fulda monastery, Turincwartesrot fell into desolation and was not settled again until 100 to 200 years later. In addition to agriculture, mining was probably already practiced in this early period, as testified by old mine tunnels in the Sand Valley. The election of St. Laurentius, the patron saint of miners, as the patron saint of a first church building presumably built in the 10th century speaks for this. The place was first mentioned in a document as Thuwardingerode in a document from Halberstadt Bishop Burchard II dated May 5, 1086. Over the centuries, the reading of the place name changed several times. a. Turwardingerode, Darwedingerode, Dervelingerode. 1258 transferred Otto III. and his mother Adelheid one and a half Hufen in Darlingerode (Derwerdingerode) to the Himmelpforten monastery (Harz) . Ludolf V. von Dassel made a similar donation in 1263.

Altenrode was mentioned in writing as Aldenrode as early as 1018. Both villages later belonged to the County of Wernigerode , after the Wernigerode Counts died out in 1429, the rule went to the Counts of Stolberg .

The development of the place was very slow due to the poor economic conditions, forest had to be cleared and large wetlands drained. Wasteland posed great problems for the inhabitants. Small farmers, linen weavers and day laborers determined the townscape. The plague decimated the population, so in 1475 only three households remained.

During the Thirty Years' War , from 1625 onwards, there were several first imperial troops in the village, both Wallensteinsche and parts of Tilly's league army , later the Swedes marched through. Contributions and pillages left the population impoverished; the villagers fled several times when troops were advancing into the nearby woods. The Harz riflemen who defended themselves against the plundering soldiers were very active in the northern Harz region; A participation of darling bait is not guaranteed, but there are conspicuous absences of some residents for days, weeks or months, so that contacts with the Harzschützen are very likely.

Since the recession of 1714, the Brandenburg-Prussian influence of the feudal lords on the county of Wernigerode became increasingly noticeable. Darlingerode residents were drafted into the Prussian army, the village had to perform entrenchment and forage services during the Seven Years' War . In 1807 the community was incorporated into the newly created Kingdom of Westphalia and belonged to the Saale Department , Blankenburg district, Wernigerode canton. Instead of the peasant master, there was now a mayor with a municipal councilor, the landlord taxes were abolished, and the compulsory guild was abolished. The joy of the new civil liberties, however, was soon overshadowed by the displeasure with the high contributions. The old Roeder Maire, of these sought to oppose, became a corporal punishment sentenced the son of Darlingeröder Maire evaded conscription by fleeing and later took as several other villagers participated in the wars of liberation against the Napoleonic domination. Subsequently, the village and the county came back to Prussia.

In the 19th century Darlingerode grew rapidly, in particular through the quarrying of granite and the establishment of stone masonry, the social structure changed significantly, and the number of forest workers increased considerably; Altenrode, on the other hand, retained its rural character. The Darlingerode granite stone products - stones for building houses, stairs, roads and bridges, pillars and gravestones - were widely sold as far as the Netherlands.

A modern school building for the time with a teacher's apartment was built in 1911-12, until 1980 the first two classes were taught separately in the remote Altenröder school building, which dates back to 1859. On April 1, 1936, the Altenrode community was incorporated into the Darlingerode community, with a total of 1,550 residents at the time. In 1986 the community celebrated the 900th anniversary with a historical parade and inaugurated a home parlor. In the last years of the 20th century, the population grew by building a residential area on the Altenröder side. On June 30, 2005 the place had 2301 inhabitants.

During the GDR era, the children's holiday camp " Anton Semjonowitsch Makarenko " was built and operated in the village .

Together with Drübeck and the Oehrenfeld district between the two places, Darlingerode was incorporated into the town of Ilsenburg (Harz) on July 1, 2009 . At the same time the administrative community of Ilsenburg (Harz) , to which Darlingerode belonged until then, was dissolved.

The last mayor of the community was Dietmar Bahr.

Culture and sights

On the L 85 at the eastern entrance to Darlingerode, on the Altenröder cemetery , directly on the watershed between the Elbe and Weser, is the stone circle - a pre-Christian and early medieval place . Each stone corresponds to the seat of a lay judge, the seat of the judge is in the west with a view of the sunrise, before which no court session was allowed to begin. Otto III. should have spoken right at this point. The circle of stones, which has been surrounded by chestnut trees since 1832, opens exactly to the east towards the Sachsenstein, which lies directly on the road . According to legend, this is said to refer to a battle on the Saßberg near Veckenstedt between Saxony and Thuringia, which took place in 479; it is mentioned in Caspar Abel's chronicle of 1745, written in Low German.

The Darlingeröder Laurentiuskirche , which dates back to the Middle Ages, and the Altenroder Sankt-Katharina-Kirche are also worth seeing .

The Heimatstube is located in a post construction from the early 15th century and was built by the Teutonic Order . It served the Commandery Langeln as Komturhof (office) until 1614 and was then sold to the Count of Stolberg-Wernigerode along with the forest . He set up a forestry in a new building, which managed the 611 acres of the Komturwald. From 1994 the Heimatstube is housed in this part. It includes the local archeology, a living room landscape around the turn of the century with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, spinning room, smokehouse - "all about slaughtering", rare field devices from ancient times as well as outdoor facilities and the like. a. with reconstructed oven. All buildings were renovated from 1990 to 1993 with subsidies.

In the cemetery is the grave of a woman known by name, who was brought to the place during the Second World War as a so-called " Eastern worker " and was a victim of forced labor here .
