Plessenburg is a district of Ilsenburg in the Harz National Park , Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .
Location and origin
Count Heinrich Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode had a stately hunting lodge built on the Königskoll in the Huysburger Häu south of Ilsenburg in the years 1775–1776. He named it after his son-in-law, Prince Friedrich Erdmann von Anhalt-Köthen-Pleß , Plessenburg. A little away from the hunting lodge, a forester's house was built in the 19th century, which soon became a popular restaurant for excursions. Immediately next to the hunting lodge, however, a half-timbered building for the kitchen staff was built in 1880, into which the catering business moved after the expropriation of the Princes of Stolberg-Wernigerode after the Second World War and which was later structurally connected with the old hunting lodge to form a building complex that is popular today Excursion restaurant is used.
