The Hohnekamm is a 900.6  m above sea level. NHN high ridge in the Harz low mountain range (Hochharz). He is Schierke in Saxony-Anhalt Harz district ( Germany ) and is characterized by its rock towers that Hohneklippen known.

Geographical location

The forested Hohnekamm extends within the natural parks resin / Saxony-indication in the National Park resin . It is located around 2 km northeast of the village of Schierke on the Kalten Bode , a district of the city of Wernigerode , whose core city is around 8.5 km northeast, and around 4 km north of Elend , a district of the town of Oberharz am Brocken . About 7.5 km east-southeast is Elbingerode and about 2.5 km southeast of Drei Annen Hohne .

In the north-west the landscape of the Hohnekamm leads to the Renneckenberg (approx.  933  m ) with the Brocken to the west ( 1141.1  m ) and in the northeast it falls over the Kontorkopf ( 556.1  m ) in the Hippeln ridge to Hasserode ( Wernigerode) at the Holtemme . The southern neighboring dome is the Erdbeerkopf ( 847.7  m ). To the south-west, beyond Schierke, lies the mountain range of Wurmberg ( 971.2  m ), Großem Winterberg ( 906.4  m ) and Kleinem Winterberg ( 837  m ).

The Hohnekamm, which runs for about 3 km in a north-west-south-east direction, forms the watershed between the Holtemme, which swells in the transition area to the Renneckenberg, in the north and the Kalten Bode in the south, which is fed by the Wormke, which rises south of the ridge ; the artificially created Wormsgraben branches off from this on the southern flank of the ridge . On the eastern flank of the ridge, the Holtemme tributary brown water rises somewhat below the inland cliff .

Mockery

The Hohnekamm ridge is made of granite , which has formed bizarre rock formations in several places due to the weathering of wool sacks - especially the Hohneklippen on the high altitudes . The highest of these craggy rock needles is the inland cliff ( , 900.6  m ), which is accessed by ladders; From the top of the cliff you can see the Brocken, Wernigerode and Ilsenburg on the edge of the Harz, Halberstadt in the foothills of the Harz Mountains and over the Lower Harz with the Joseph Cross on the Großer Auerberg . The Grenzklippe ( , 886  m ) is located a little to the northwest , while the ridge to the Bärenklippe ( , approx.  870  m ) continues to the southeast . The south-eastern part of the ridge below these cliffs is known as the Hohnekopf ( , approx.  840  m ), on which there are other cliffs; The Trudenstein lies on its southern slope .

Brocken Railway

The Brockenbahn , opened in 1898, runs over the southern slopes of the Hohnekamm and past the neighboring Erdbeerkopf , a narrow-gauge railway that runs on a 19.0 km long route from Drei Annen Hohne to the northwest on the Brocken.

sport and freetime

In the cold season, if the snow conditions permit, part of the Renneckenberg trail leads around the Hohnekamm . The former Drei Annen Hohne ski area with a 1000 m long ski lift, which was then dismantled, extended below the Hohnekopf until around the year 2000 . The inguinal cliff on the ridge is included as No. 15 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin.

legend

According to a legend , the Mock Cliffs were three beautiful virgins who were petrified here as punishment for their arrogance .
