The Kalte Bode is the left, 17 km long source river of the Bode in the Hochharz in Saxony-Anhalt .
Surname
The name is a composite of the river name of the Bode (see above) and the adjective cold , from a OHG or MHG -derived and has remained unchanged since retarded adjective . The names of the cold and the warm Bode arose from the temperature difference of approx. 2 ° C.
course
The Kalte Bode rises in the Upper Harz at the foot of the Brocken , in the southern part of the so-called Brockenfeld, directly on the state border with Lower Saxony , north of Braunlage am Bodesprung . The origins of the Große Bode , the Ecker and the Oder are close by . First, the Kalte Bode flows eastwards towards Schierke , along the northern slope of the Wurmberg . In Schierke it changes its direction of flow to the south.
In the Elendstal, a wild and romantic valley between Schierke and Elend , the Kalte Bode has to bring huge amounts of water into the valley on this short stretch in spring. A few kilometers beyond Elend, it is dammed in the Mandelholzer retention basin until it merges with the Warmen Bode to the Bode behind Königshütte below the ruins of Königsburg .
