The Renneckenberg , formerly mostly called Rennekenberg , is about 933  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Harz low mountain range (Hochharz). It is located near Schierke in the urban area of Wernigerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt .

The Renneckenberg rises in the Harz National Park and in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . Its summit is about 3 km north of the village of Schierke, which belongs to Wernigerode, and about 300 m east of the Brockenstrasse ( K  1356), which leads from Schierke to the Brocken ( 1141.1  m ). As a ridge, it extends from the Zeterklippen (max. Approx.  830  m ) in the north-northwest to the Kapellenklippe (at approx.  910  m ) in the south-southeast.

To the north-north-west the landscape of the Renneckenberg falls into the valley of the Ilse , to the north-east it leads past the Molkenhaus to the Hohe Wand ( 758  m ) with the ear cliffs and to the east it falls into the valley of the mountain in the transition area to the south-east Hohnekamm ( 900.6  m ; with Hohneklippen ) from the Holtemme . In a south-easterly direction, the landscape leads over the upper course of the Wormke, which rises in the south-south-east, a little below the Kapellenklippe, near the spring, to the Erdbeerkopf ( 847.7  m ). To the south, the area drops into the valley of the Kalten Bode with the village of Schierke. After west-southwest is on the on the chunks bed located mountain pass Yellow Brink ( 900.6  m ) to the Brockenstraße connection to Heinrich height (about  1045  m ), a south-side tip of the lump; The Ilse flows north of the pass and a small nameless tributary of the Kalten Bode to the south. In the west, the landscape leads over the upper course of the Ilse near the source to the Brocken.

Natural allocation

The Renneckenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Harz (No. 38) and in the main unit Hochharz (381) to the sub-unit Brocken ( Eastern Brocken massif ; 381.0).

Mountain height and cliffs

While the height of the Renneckenberg is usually given as 933  m (south crest), the last contour line visible on topographic maps is below the summit at 930  m ; its north tip is 929.7  m high.

On the wooded mountain there are - in addition to the above-mentioned Zeterklippen and the Kapellenklippe  - many rocky cliffs that are nameless with the exception of the Brockenkinder (at approx.  905  m ) to the west-northwest of the summit .

Protected areas

In addition to its central location in the Harz National Park, parts of the Harz landscape protection area and northern Harz foreland ( CDDA no. 20784; designated 1968; 1587.6238  km² ) and the Hochharz fauna-flora-habitat area (FFH no. 4229 ) are located on the Renneckenberg -301; 60.23 km²) and the Hochharz bird sanctuary (VSG no. 4229-401; 61.12 km²).

Ski hut and hiking

The ski hut of the Wernigerode ski club is located west of the mountain peak in the direction of Brockenstrasse at an altitude of about 912  m . The Gelber Brink mountain pass ( 900.6  m ), located on the Brocken bed on the Brockenstrasse, is included as No. 22 in the system of stamping points for the Harz hiking pin.
