Thomas Liese
Thomas Liese (born August 10, 1968 in Sangerhausen ) is a former German racing cyclist and later coach. As a racing cyclist, he became world track champion in 1989. From 2008 to 2012 he was the national coach of the German women's team.
Career as a racing cyclist
Thomas Liese started as an amateur for SC DHfK Leipzig . With the GDR selection in 1985, Liese was track junior world champion in the team pursuit and won the silver medal in 1986. At the UCI rail world championships in 1989 he was able to win the title with the GDR's four-wheeler in the elite category. At the last GDR championships in 1990 he won the team pursuit title with the four from Leipzig.
On the road , Liese won numerous international races including the stage races Olympia’s Tour , Lower Saxony Tour , Tour de Liège , Tour of Greece and twice the Saxony Tour . In 2001 he became German champion in the individual time trial . Liese took for the team Bianchi at the 2003 Tour de France as a helper of the entire Second Jan Ullrich part and finished the race in 136. At the end of the 2005 season, he finished his career as Active.
Work as a trainer
In 2008, Liese succeeded Jochen Dornbusch as coach of the German women's national team. In May 2012 it became known that Liese was ill and could not look after the team at the Olympic Games in London ; Ronny Lauke stood in for him . His contract, which was limited to the end of 2012, was not extended by the BDR . He was succeeded by André Korff .
