Henning Bommel (born February 23, 1983 in Finsterwalde ) is a German track and road cyclist .

Athletic career

Henning Bommel won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the Junior Track Cycling World Championships in 2001 . At the German championship he was junior champion in the team pursuit. In 2004 he was successful in the same discipline at the Athens Open Balkan Championship . A year later he won the track cycling world cup in Los Angeles in the team pursuit and in 2008 he became German champion.

In 2005 Henning Bommel won a section of the Vysočina stage race on the road. The next year he was successful on the first stage of the Tour of Serbia . In 2008 Bommel won a stage in the Tour of Bulgaria . At the 2010 German Railway Championships in Cottbus , Bommel was runner-up in the two-man team driving together with Franz Schiewer . He is also a successful starter in six-day races .

In 2013, Bommel and Theo Reinhardt finished third in the two-man team driving at the World Railroad Championships in Minsk .

In 2016, Henning Bommel was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished fifth in the team pursuit together with Nils Schomber , Kersten Thiele , Domenic Weinstein and Theo Reinhardt . The following year he won his first championship title in an individual discipline ( points run ) at the German track championships .
