Franz Schiewer (born November 15, 1990 in Forst ) is a German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2008, Franz Schiewer and his RG Cottbus Brandenburg team won the 4,000-meter team pursuit of the juniors at the German Championships in Büttgen . Another success was fourth place in the overall standings in the individual time trial in the junior cycling Bundesliga . He also took part in the European Rail Championships in Pruszków in 2008 and came ninth in the points race.

In the 2009 season, Schiewer joined the LKT Team Brandenburg as a young professional . At the 57th Tour de Berlin in the second stage in Rudow , he took second place completely surprisingly and favored by a termination of the race after ten of twelve laps and thus secured the yellow jersey, which he won in the following three stages despite a defect in the fourth stage in Birkenwerder also no longer gave up. He won the final standings after five stages 19 seconds ahead of the Dutchman Tom Relou and the German Jakob Steigmiller . He is one of the youngest winners of this cycling event.

In 2010 Franz Schiewer became German champion in the points race and vice-champion in the two-man team race (with Henning Bommel ). In 2011 and 2013 he became German champion in the team pursuit.

At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2016 , Schiewer won the silver medal in the standing race behind pacemaker Gerd Gessler .

Since 2017 he has been training together with the visually impaired racing driver Olaf Schulz as his pilot on the tandem . The sporting goal of the two athletes is to take part in the Summer Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo .

In 2017 and 2018 , Schiewer was the European champion in the stand-up race behind Gessler.

Professional

Franz Schiewer is a member of the sports promotion group of the Brandenburg Police. In 2017 he completed his training as a commissioner .
