Dieter Durst

Dieter Durst (born May 24, 1946 in Nuremberg ) is a former German cyclist and former pacemaker .

In his youth, Durst was a successful cyclist and, among other things, Bavarian champion and participant in the 1961 Youth Tour in Radevormwald , together with Ernst Claussmeyer and Piet de Wit , among others .

Since 1968 Dieter Durst was active as a pacemaker in standing races and derny races . With a total of nine titles as world champion and nine titles as European stayer champion as well as 24 German championships won in both disciplines, he is the most successful German pacemaker of all time. He also set a new hour record with the Austrian Franz Dögel in 1978 in the Vienna Ferry-Dusika-Hallenstadion with a distance of 74.540 kilometers .

Since Bruno Walrave's resignation on February 22, 2009, Dieter Durst has also been the world's most successful active pacemaker. On the occasion of his 65th birthday in May 2011, Durst announced that he would end his career for health reasons. As part of the revenge for the European Standing Championship, he was officially bid farewell to active standing sport on October 2, 2011 on his home track at Reichelsdorfer Keller in Nuremberg.

Since 1985 Durst has been an honorary member of RC Herpersdorf , to which he has been a member since his youth.

Dieter Durst is the son of the sports journalist Sigmund Durst , who died in 1974 at the age of 69 and spokesman for many cycling events .
