Romain De Loof (born March 6, 1941 in Eeklo ) is a former Belgian cyclist and three-time world champion.

Romain De Loof was one of the most successful track cyclists in Belgium in the 1960s , from 1964 to 1975 as a professional. He was Belgian champion nine times in various track disciplines alone , in the single pursuit , in the two-man team , in the derny race and as a stalker .

In 1962 De Loof was world champion of the amateurs in Milan ; He was able to repeat this success the following year at the World Championships in Rocourt . After moving to the pros, he won another World Cup in Frankfurt am Main in 1966 .

From 1965 to 1970 Romain De Loof also started in 56 six-day races. In 1965 he won in Milan with Rik Van Steenbergen ; this victory was the 40th and last for Van Steenbergen. In 1969 he won in Amsterdam and Rotterdam , both times together with Peter Post . After a fall in the Gent-Wevelgem race , he suffered a triple pelvic fracture in 1970 and had to take a year off. "Frivole levenswandel beknotte zijn carriére." (Flemish = "Frivolous way of life shortened his career"). After the end of his active career, he worked as a sports director.

In February 2010 Romain De Loof received the Belgian medal for services to the city of Eeklo in the presence of Patrick Sercu and Eddy Merckx .
