Josef Schwarzer (born January 17, 1881 in Schnellewalde , † August 30, 1908 in Düsseldorf ) was a German pacemaker .

Josef Schwarzer was a bicycle mechanic by profession. First he worked as a chauffeur for the Dutch cyclist Piet Dickentman . Squidward Robl noticed him as a pacemaker . In 1907 Schwarzer bought his own pacemaker machine and ran the US racing driver Louis Mettling until he had a fatal accident in a race in Dresden in July 1907 .

Then Schwarzer mainly led Robl and the Swiss Fritz Ryser , with whom he became world champion in Berlin-Steglitz . Just four weeks later, Schwarzer fell fatally on the Düsseldorf cycling track . The sports album of the cycling world wrote: "The relatives mourned around the bier of the deceased and in their minds the whole world of cycling lingered at his coffin."
