Jens Veggerby

Jens Veggerby (born October 20, 1962 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish cyclist .

Athletic career

Jens Veggerby was a professional cyclist from 1984 to 1999. As an amateur and at the beginning of his professional career, he successfully drove in road races such as the Tour of Sweden or the Tour of Lombardy . He also competed in the Tour de France in 1988 and 1989 . He later concentrated on track cycling .

Above all, Veggerby caused a sensation as a successful six-day driver . In total, he started at 89 six days, of which he was able to win 13. He achieved five of these victories together with his compatriot Jimmi Madsen . He was also three times European champion in two-man team driving , once with Madsen, twice with Pierangelo Bincoletto . In 1993 he was also stayer world champion.

Professional

Today Jens Veggerby runs an art gallery in Copenhagen. From July 2010 he was on trial for illegally bringing 270,000 euros from Monaco to Denmark in November 2008 for the prominent Danish businessman Stein Bagger. When Bagger disappeared at the end of November 2008 after the bankruptcy of his company IT Factory , Veggerby reported himself to the authorities. He did not know that amounts of more than 75,000  Danish kroner (DKR) would have to be registered. On April 4, 2011, he was sentenced to a fine of 500,000 DKR.
