Martinus "Martin" Venix (* 4. March 1950 in Tilburg ) is a former Dutch track cyclist and two-time stayer world champion.

Athletic career

In 1974 and 1976, Martin Venix became the Dutch stay-up master, then he moved on to the professionals (until 1985). In 1979 and 1982 he became the professional world champion behind the pacemaker Norbert Koch . This made him the last Dutch stand-up world champion of all time (in 1994 this discipline was removed from the World Cup program by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)).

Venix has won the Dutch championship title several times in the standing and derny races . He was also on the podium several times at European Championships.

Martin Venix also took part in 79 six-day races, but could never win. Twice, in 1979 and 1980, he took second place in Montreal with Gerben Karstens .

Honors

In April 2015, a memorial was unveiled for Martin Venix and his pacemaker Norbert Koch in Utrecht at the Galgenwaard stadium . It was modeled on a photo from the 1979 World Cup , where Venix was led to the world title by Koch. It is the first monument in the world dedicated to standing sport.
