Paul Suter (born March 9, 1892 in Gränichen , † April 6, 1966 in Paris ) was a Swiss cyclist .
Paul Suter was one of six brothers ( Max , Franz , Fritz, Gottfried and Heiri ) who were all racing cyclists. As an amateur, he won the first championship in Zurich in 1910 (Züri-Metzgete), the most important Swiss one-day race at the time . He was a professional from 1911 to 1930 . In 1911 he won All Around Saxony . In the same year he won the six-day race in Hamburg together with his brother Franz ; thus they were the first Swiss to win a six-day race.
Before the First World War , Paul Suter turned to standing sport in 1914 . He was Swiss champion seven times in this discipline. In 1923 he became world champion in front of a home crowd in Zurich . Even after his resignation, he stayed in the profession and set the pace . He led his brother Heiri to two championship titles.
In 1914 his brother Franz was struck by a train while walking in a Paris suburb at a level crossing and died at the age of 24 in front of Paul Suter.
