Theo Verschueren (born January 27, 1943 in Sint Jansteen ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

In 1963 Theo Verschueren won the Tour of Belgium for amateurs. In the same year he joined the professionals and was active as such until 1974. In the eleven years of his professional career, Verschueren won numerous victories in various disciplines on the track and road .

Theo Verschueren was twice world champion of the stayers , in 1971 and 1972, after becoming vice world champion in 1969 and 1970. Five times he won the title of European champion in the derny race . Verschueren has been Belgian champion eleven times in these two disciplines. In 1970 he set a world hour record over 64.546 km behind Derny-led by Norbert Koch on his home track in the Sportpaleis of Antwerp .

Verschueren also started in a total of 67 six-day races, two of which he won in Antwerp: 1968 with Sigi Renz and 1972 with René Pijnen and Leo Duyndam .

Theo Verschueren was born in the Dutch province of Zeeland , but is Belgian. He is not related to his compatriot Adolph Verschueren . The “Verschueren Cycling + Biking Team” annually organizes a race for everyone near Antwerp called “Theo Verschueren Classic” over 75 kilometers around the town of Sint-Niklaas . The race starts in front of the local bicycle shop in Verschueren.
