Jozef Despised
Jozef Verachtert (born August 20, 1932 in Oevel , † January 17, 1967 in Geel ) was a Belgian cyclist .
Jozef Verachtert was a professional cyclist from 1955 to 1967. He was the typical Belgian specialist in so-called fair races , of which he contested numerous and won 24. His greatest success was in 1961, ninth place near Bordeaux-Paris . In 1962 he became Belgian champion in the standing race . He also started in twelve six-day races.
Verachtert died at the age of 34 after first strangling his wife in a marital argument and then ending his life himself.
