Ueli Luginbühl

Ueli Luginbühl (born November 3, 1941 in Erfurt ; † November 30, 2010 in Zurich ) was a Swiss cyclist and pacemaker .

Athletic career

He started cycling in 1957. In 1959 he won the Zurich championship as a junior , and also in 1960. The latter victory earned him qualification for the then A-class of Swiss amateurs . In 1961 he had to interrupt his career because of military service. After resuming training, he turned to standing sports.

The UCI Track Cycling World Championships 1963 Ueli Luginbühl was third in the Amateur - uprights . Three times - in 1962, 1963 and 1964 - he was the Swiss standing champion among the amateurs. In 1964 he joined the professional drivers. In 1966 he resigned as a racing driver and then worked as a pacemaker from 1968 to 1994 . As such, he led Max Hürzeler to the UCI track world championships in 1987 and Peter Steiger to the world championship title of professional stayers in 1994 .

Professional

Ueli Luginbühl completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer . After the end of his cycling career, Luginbühl organized cycling trips on Mallorca together with Hürzeler . In December 2010, he died of cancer at the age of 69.
