The Fort Ebey State Park is a 261-hectare state park in the US state of Washington .

The state park is located on Whidbey Island three kilometers north of Coupeville and twelve kilometers south of Oak Harbor in Island County . The park has a campsite with 39 spaces. The park encompasses five kilometers of coastline to Juan de Fuca Street , in the park is a freshwater lake, several kilometers of bicycle and hiking trails and the remains of the US coastal fort Fort Ebey .
history
Fort Ebey was built in 1942 as a coastal fortification to reinforce Fort Casey . The fort was named after Isaac Ebey , an officer who was murdered by Indians on Whidbey Island in 1857. The fort was armed with two 6-inch guns. In 1946 the fort was abandoned. The guns were dismantled, the concrete foundations of the gun emplacements are still intact. The state park area was acquired by the federal government in three sections from 1965, and since 1991 it covers 261 hectares. The state park opened in February 1981.
