The Mount Pilchuck State Park is a recreational area, 7 mi (11 km) east of Granite Falls in the State of Washington on the western edge of the Cascade Range . The state park is home to 1,903 acres (770 hectares) of alpine habitats, recreational areas, and Mount Pilchuck itself. The main tourist interest is the 3 mi (4.8 km) walk to the summit and the old forest fire observation post on the summit at 5,324 ft (1,623 m) elevation above sea level.

history

The name "Pilchuck" originally comes from the Indians' name for a stream in the area and means "red water". The United States Forest Service (USFS) established a forest fire observation post on the summit in 1918, which was manned until the 1960s. Washington State Parks administered a concessionaire ski resort on the slopes of Mt. Pilchuck between 1957 and 1980 until it was closed due to poor snow conditions. The park is operated in partnership between the USFS and the Everett Mountaineers.
