The Bogachiel State Park is a State Park in Clallam County in the US state of Washington . The park is located in the northwest of the Olympic Peninsula nine kilometers south of Forks on US Highway 101 .
geography
The 49 hectare park is located on the north bank of the Bogachiel River . The region receives 3500–4000 mm of precipitation annually, so that the park is densely overgrown with a rainforest made up of hemlocks , Douglas firs , giant arborvitae and berry bushes.
history
The name Bogachiel is borrowed from the Klallam language and means “cloudy water”. The park was established in 1931. Since Washington State could not finance the operation of the park, it was operated jointly with the Bogachiel Commerical Club and the Forks Chamber of Commerce until 1961 ,
Tourist facilities
The park has a campsite with over 40 spaces, a group tent and a picnic area. Two short paths lead to the river bank. You can fish for salmon or rainbow trout in the river, and canoes or kayaks on the river.
