Forks is a city on the western edge of Olympic National Park in Washington state . The city is close to the Quileute reserve. It was only founded on August 28, 1945 and has around 3,120 inhabitants (as of 2009) on an area of 8.1 square kilometers . It got its name from its location between the three rivers Sol Duc , Bogachiel and Calawah River . On September 20, 1951, after a long dry season of 108 days without rain, a forest fire broke out east of Forks, and it spread rapidly. Twenty-eight homes and several other buildings in Forks were destroyed by the fire before the rain stopped the fire and could eventually be extinguished.

Forks is characterized by the wood processing industry. The Forks Timber Museum provides a glimpse into the history of forestry and logging in the area. Forks is also a popular starting point for exploring Olympic National Park. Washington State Road 110, La Push Road, heads towards La Push and Rialto Beach , so the Pacific can be reached in less than half an hour by car. Little Bogachiel State Park is nine kilometers south of Forks .

The city achieved international fame through the books of the vampire series Twilight by Stephenie Meyer , as Meyer wrote the five novels of the series ( Bis (s) zum Dawn , Bis (s) zum Noon , Bis (s) zum Abendrot , Bis (s) zum Ende the night and until (s) the first ray of sun - The short second life of Bree Tanner ) in Forks. Due to the great success of the book series and the resulting films, Forks has become a popular destination for Twilight fans.
