Clallam County is a county in the state of Washington in the United States . The 2010 census found the county's population of 71,404. More recent estimates assume 73,486 inhabitants. The county seat is Port Angeles .

The county has an area of 6,917 square kilometers, of which 2,415 square kilometers (34.9 percent) are water. It is located in the north of the Olympic Peninsula and protrudes into the Juan de Fuca Strait , on the banks of which the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge lies.
history
It was named after the Klallam (also Clallam ). This is the name of four tribes, three of which live in the United States on the Olympic Peninsula and one in the south of the Canadian Vancouver Island .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 64,525 people. There were 27,164 households and 18,064 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.12% White, 0.84% African American, 5.12% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, and 1.18% other races Groups; 2.44% from two or more races. 3.41% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 27,164 households, 25.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 53.90% were married couples living together, 9.00% were single mothers. 33.50% were not families. 28.10% were single households and 13.40% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.78 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.00% residents under 18 years of age, 7.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.80% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 21.30% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 98.70 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,449 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,381. Males had a median income of $ 35,452 versus $ 24,628 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,517. 12.50% of the population and 8.90% of families are below the poverty line. 17.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 6.80% were 65 years of age or older.
