According to the 2000 census , the county had 9,872 people. There were 3,755 households and 275,617 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.11% White, 0.30% African American, 2.20% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, and 2.43% other races Groups; 2.25% were from two or more races. Of the 3,755 households, 34.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.50% were married couples living together, 8.20% were single mothers. 26.60% were not families. 21.10% were single households and 6.60% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.70% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.00% were 65 years of age or older.
